Bradgate Park, Hunt’s Hill Stone

Hunts Hill Stone

Hunt’s Hill Stone 07/06/2015

Access to the standing stone is from Hunt's Hill car park (off Sharpley Hill/Warren Hill, opposite the turn into Benscliffe Road, LE6 0AH). The stone is situated in the wood to the left of the public toilets, OS Grid Ref: SK 52471 11651.

The site is overgrown with trees and shrubs, the roots of which have disturbed and broken many of the nearby stones. The dowsers felt there was a mixture of placed stones and incorporated rocky outcrops in what would once have been a clearing. There was a smaller, disturbed, stone opposite the standing stone giving a possible circle diameter of about 20 yards, sloping downwards to the west.

The dowsers also found a small underground watercourse passing close to the standing stone. It was felt that this may have moved from its original position into alignment with the standing stone.

An interesting, if slightly confusing site, worthy of further study. Preferably on a much drier day!
